I loved the mountains in this area and like hunting that terrain. I have hunted with Dirk and Dirky his son in Namibia. The accommodation is great. As a bow hunter it is of most importance that your PH has bow hunting experience so you will be set up in blinds that are set up for bow hunting. If spot and stalking a PH with bow hunting experience is a must. Dirk and Dirky are great with bow hunters and I was able to get great animals with the bow. My son harvested 9 animals on our hunt in 2025. We never lost an animal.  The conservancy is great with lots of wildlife and water. It’s thousands of acres of land. I loved the mountains in this area and like hunting that terrain. My wife went on the hunts and had a wonderful experience. We are going back October 2026 my wife and I. Taking our youngest son on his first hunt in South Africa. He will be bow hunting and I know he’s going have a trip of a lifetime. Food is great. Staff is great. Taking care of the harvested animals and getting to taxidermy was handled great. I cannot say enough about this experience. Can’t wait until October 2026. This will be my third trip hunting with Dirk and Dirky Frank Knox

It was without a doubt the hunt of a lifetime. Based upon the recommendation of a friend who’s been to Africa multiple times, my two sons and I booked a plains game safari with Dirk de Bod in June 2026. It was without a doubt the hunt of a lifetime. The three of us were the only group in camp, which is their custom. The accommodations were comfortable, the food was excellent and the entire staff was outstanding. Dirk and his son Dirk Jr. were the best guides I’ve ever hunted with. Their ability to judge and measure animals was remarkable. The driving and stalking of the plains game was fun and challenging as they only allow trophy animals to be harvested. Anyone planning a trip to Africa, I would definitely recommend booking with Dirk de Bod – between the quality of the animals, the entire hunting experience, the staff, accommodations, and meals makes for a great experience and one that will go into the memory bank.    Matt Jenkins

A once in A lifetime experience! that we hope to repeat in the future. Hunting with Dirk de Bod Safaris was a magnificent experience.  This was my first hunt outside the US and Dirk made the process easy and understandable.  From our first email communication to our first meeting at the airport, Dirk made the process seamless and it felt like we were friends from the start.   Dirk is a true professional and master of his craft.  His knowledge of wild game, wildlife of Africa, and everything Namibia was excellent, there didn’t seem to be any piece of his environment that he did not know intimately.  He knows animals and trophies and provided me and my family with excellent trophy opportunities as well as amazing wildlife viewing.  He knew exactly what to do to provide the opportunities we had dreamed about. Dirk, his family, and staff all worked hard to make our trip memorable.  The lodging was clean, perfect and comfortable.  Dirk and his staff went out of their way to accommodate my daughter and moved in an extra bed so we all shared a room.  Sometimes its the little touches that make all the difference and this helped my family enjoy the trip even more.  Every meal was delicious, we were offered traditional Namibian food and meal time was an experience to be enjoyed.  Cooking braai-style created wonderful memories for our family and provided an opportunity to gather and tell stories.   Dirk de Bod Safaris provided an outstanding experience for a first time Nambian bowhunter, they then made our trip exceptional by being family friendly and curating experiences that my wife and daughter could enjoy while I hunted.  If you are looking for a great hunt, amazing scenery, beautiful trophy quality wildlife, with a family friendly atmosphere than I could not recommend anyone more highly than Dirk de Bod Safaris.  A once in a lifetime opportunity for any hunter, young or old, to enjoy. I shared a booth at a Safari Show and booked with him after the first day,  It was clear to me that his customers were his friends, and not just a revenue stream.  They shared what a great time they had with him and relived their grand adventures.  His wife is one of the most lovely people on the planet and while Dirky was just a boy when I first met him,  it was clear his father’s fingerprints were all over him.  He was an amazing young man in his own right and has grown up to be someone I would be proud to call my own son.  I think Dirk’s special forces background is part of his DNA as nothing was left to chance.  The camp was beautiful, the vehicles were maintained as per the manufacturers specifications and his knowledge of local flora and fauna, tracking ability, processional photography skills and excellent staff made this a trip to remember.  Craig Boddington said if he were in a Dangerous Game area, he would be one of the best known PH’s on the continent. Namibia is where I would take my family as the beauty  of the land, safety, medical facilities and infrastructure are all exceptional.  I can reccomend his operation without reservation, regardless of whether you hunt with Dirk Sr. or his son! As good as it gets… for old hands and beginners. I was fortunate to hunt with Dirk de Bod early in my African hunting career. Thirty-some years later, I’m not sure how many safaris we’ve done together. All have been excellent, all memorable. In Southern Africa, one can expect comfortable camps, great food, professional staff, and good concessions with lots of game. Safaris Namibia will not disappoint, but the Dirk de Bod touch is unique and exceptional. Among the many PHs I’ve hunted with, few compare with Dirk. He loves his country and its animals, takes good care of both. He has deep knowledge of the land, the people, and the flora and fauna. Dirk is one of the best judges of trophy quality I have hunted with, uncanny ability to orchestrate a stalk, and when it’s time to shoot, he remains cool, calm, and reassuring. He is the consummate host and, while your safari will almost certainly be successful, Dirk makes it fun. If you’re an experienced African hand, you will still learn from Dirk. I’m still learning from him. If it’s early in your African career, you could be in no better hands. In 2003, when daughter Brittany went on her first safari, I took her to Dirk. I blame him for the African obsession she still has. Years later, her now-husband Brad Jannenga made his first safari with Dirk. And when my buddy John Stucker was finally ready to take the plunge and go on his first safari, I sent him to Dirk. Like me, I have no idea how many times they have returned. Like me, we all consider the de Bod clan part of our family, looking forward to many more family reunions. Craig Boddington

A note about my Professional Hunter I am probably preaching to the choir, but I cannot say enough about him.  His hospitality was fabulous, full breakfast every morning (if we wanted), a good hot lunch after each morning hunt, snacks around the fire pit after the afternoon hunt, and old school European Formal Dining every evening.  We felt comfortable as soon as he met us at the airport.  His wife, Katarena, son, Dirky, future daughter-in-law, Anka, and kitchen staff overserved us at almost every meal.  His daughter, Lize Marie, and her husband, Dawid, joined us for a couple evenings.  Dirk’s friend Ace joined us for a few days hunting.  He was very sharp and interesting to have a conversation with.  They all added even more to the success of our vacation.   As a hunting partner, I have never met anyone who could spot animals over a mile away, judge whether or not the animal is a shooter or not.  Then maneuver a vehicle around a very rough area and put a hunter into a position to make the shot.  After the shot was made, he knew by the way the animal reacted upon impact how well he was hit.  I have never met anyone with as much knowledge about hunting in general and all of the different species of animals as he has.  I asked him if he patterned the movements of the animals and he said, “No”.  Then I watched him maneuver the truck around the 2,000-acre hillside over and over again until we got a shot at the Waterbuck.  I guess he does it by instinct or muscle memory or something, but all I know is I came away with a trophy.   I have not met anyone more personable than him.  Sitting around a fire pit in the evening, exchanging hunting stories, we were totally at home.  I am an Old West Texas Bull Shooter, and I can reel off my share, but I could listen to Dirk and his son, Dirky, tell me their hunting stories for hours.  They had a wonderful way of framing a situation they had experienced on a hunt with client.    Example: A hunter they were guiding had an impala ram stop at 100 meters.  The hunter set up to shoot and fired his rifle five times at the animal – the impala did not move.  Dirky had to retrieve another magazine from the truck.  The hunter loaded it and fired another five times.  The impala left uninjured.  The comment Dirk had about the situation was “That impala wanted to go to Texas really bad”.   Dirk, the man, is a visionary.  He was trained as an armorer in the military.  Then started a gunsmith business with a partner and sold it.  Together, they started a 48,000-acre hunting ranch.  He recruited an extremely capable crew, including his wife, Katarina, son, Dirky, future daughter in law, Anka, trackers, Zacariah and Leonard, the kitchen staff, Johanna, Eva, and Joyce, and the ranch staff. His hunting ranch is set up like most cattle ranches are set up.  He has a 10,000 acre “Nursery” with the best breeding stock he can find.  He participates in programs to buy and sell the breeding stock to ensure the animals gene pool is strong.  He has contracts with biologists and veterinarians to ensure the health of the animals.  He has the animals immunized against disease.  He supplements their food with mineral blocks and other supplements.  During droughts, he purchases hay to feed.  He has drilled 8 water wells to supply water.  He releases the offspring into the hunting area of his ranch and hunters are only allowed to harvest them after they have reached their full potential.  Usually, six or seven years old, depending on the species.  He created a thriving, renewable resource that can serve as a model for all game ranches and reserves.  I have never met a man that deserves his success more than he does.   Our humblest thanks to Dirk, Katarena, Dirky, Anka, Eva, Leonard, and his staff for one of the most wonderful vacations of our lives. “He is The Best”. When I was looking to book an elephant/Buffalo/Leopard hunt, I asked Craig Boddington what he thought of Dirk at the DSC convention. His answer was “HE’s THE BEST”. With that recommendation, I booked 21 days with Dirk for my son Will, daughter Ashley and myself. As advertised, Dirk is the BEST. He runs an efficient, beautiful camp; his property is breathtaking; he is calm under pressure, he is a great judge of the game.   Most important, he is great with young hunters,  and I trust him completely. This year I’m returning to Africa for my 16th safari, this trip I’m bring  my wife and one of our closest friend and his wife on their first African safari.Dirk was my first choice to hoist my wife and give two new African hunters their first taste of Africa.  Chris Branton
